Paula Charnley MSc Counselling Psychology
I lived much of my adult life in The Netherlands, until in 2015 fate brought me back to the Staffordshire Moorlands. I qualified as a Kripalu Yoga Teacher in the USA and studied Shiatsu, Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM) and Focusing in Holland. Since I began practicing yoga in the 1990’s I was convinced that a holistic approach leads to optimal well being. Like great teachers before me, this meant combining an Eastern and Western approach. I completed a Masters in Counselling Psychology and continue to study approaches that address the root causes of all that holds us back from reaching our full potential as human beings.
My awareness of the interconnectedness of human beings to each other and to the environment, developed through my yoga practice, which transformed my life. When I tuned in to the “real me” and began to accept each moment just as it is, it opened up the possibility for me to live life more fully; mentally emotionally and physically. Yoga continues to support me daily in managing the highs and lows of life.
This new awareness drew me to the ancient wisdom of Oriental Medicine; Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM), Ayurveda and Shiatsu. These are Holistic practices, which means that they consider the whole person within the relationship to themselves and others, their environment, lifestyle, diet etc. Whereas Western Traditional medicine often treats the mind and body as separate.
